Our Story
- Founded in 1973, Karnik Pet Lodge was built on a simple vision and a deep love for animals: to create more than just a kennel, but a true home-away-from-home for pets. What began as a small, local lodging service has grown into two welcoming resort lodges in Ann Arbor, MI, and Toledo, OH, serving pet parents and their companions with trusted care and joyful experiences.
- The journey was transformative in 1985, when Ray Bauman introduced an innovative design—no cramped kennels, only spacious indoor-outdoor suites lit by skylights, surrounded by fresh air and clean living space—unlike anything else in the industry at the time. That thoughtful architecture became the foundation of what Karnik stands for today: transparency, comfort, and health in every detail.
- By 2008, Karnik expanded to Ann Arbor, opening a bright, two-story facility featuring glass walls, skylights, and an open courtyard designed for visibility, warmth, and calm. Both locations share the same mission: to serve pets and their families through personalized care, innovative amenities, and an unwavering commitment to excellence
